1
-~
occurring at the base of the bench slope. Groundwater conditions
at the site varied across the mine bench, however, correlation
was observed between visual evidences of slope instability and
_ high moisture or' high groundwater conditions. The visual
observations of instability, along with areas which show high
moisture or high groundwater conditions, are shown on Figure 2.
Also presented on Figure 2 are the locations for critical cross-
sections through the mine bench area. These cross-sections are
shown on Figures 3 and 4. These figures show the mine bench
conditions encountered during the site investigation program and
observed water levels during drilling and those taken on August
22, 1984. The observations on-site and the samples obtained
during the drilling and investigation program were both used to
_ evaluate the testing program required to support the field
investigation program and to develop design models.

10
