density sandy clay and clayey sands were encountered. In Test
' Bozings No. 5 and No. 6, which were located on the slope, low
density colluvium sandy clays and clayey sands were encountered
' to approximately 27 feet. In each boring, a weathered claystone
- ~ material was encountered below the colluvium, below which
- interbedded sandstone and shale was encountered. In Test Borings
I No. 7 and No. 8, sandy clay colluvium was encountered at the
ground surface to depths of 19 and 29 feet respectively. Coal
I seams were observed in Test Borings No. 7 and No. 8.
I Piezometers were installed in all the borings except Test Boring
I No. 4, with two additional holes drilled without sampling for
installation of piezometers. The location of these additional
holes are shown on Figure 2.
I The location of each soil encountered in the test borings are
indicated on the Test Boring Logs presented in Appendix B.
I In all cases, drilling was performed without the use of cased
I ~ holes. The material remained open during the process of drilling
and installation of the piezometers, except in extreme low areas
where near surface groundwater was encountered. In these areas,
great difficulty was encountered in maintaining the holes during
I the installation of the piezometer and some caving occurred in
I the bottom portions of the drilled hole. A piezometer was
installed in each hole, with a tip at various depths.
Installation sheets for each of the piezometers indicating the
strata and the various data associated with the installation of
I 8
