Lochhead
E><ecunve Director
Michael B. Long
Division Duecror
Our staff has completed the review of the above referenced annual
hydrology report (AHR), and our comments are listed below:
1) on page 10, under Bedrock Water Ouality, the text states that
one water quality sample will be collected from the wells on leases
C-8424 and C-8425 prior to entering the leaseholds. As resolved in
TR-40, sampling of these wells is not limited to one time prior to
entering the leases. Rather, sampling is to be re-commenced at
least one year prior to requesting final bond release. The text
should be appropriately amended.
2) on page 15, language from previous AHR's is repeated,
indicating that WQCD sent an effluent sample and prior toxicity
reports to the EPA laboratory in Duluth, Minnesota to investigate
the cause of toxicity of certain discharges. The narrative states
that WFU does not believe WQCD has heard back Prom EPA on this
matter. Since the samples were sent in 1992, it would seem that
some resolution should have been reached by now. Please contact
WQCD to determine the status of this issue if you have not already
done so, and update the AHR narrative as appropriate.
3) In Appendix C, page C-1, it is unclear whether the "Depth"
column indicates the total depth of the well or the depth to water.
