• Production (Table 5) <br />Alfalfa was not present in the samples from this reclamation area. Herbaceous <br />production for all other species averaged 763.7 pounds per acre. <br />Woody Plant Density (Table 6) <br />Native shrubs averaged 202.4 stems per acre. Saskatoon serviceberry contributed more <br />than two-fifths of this total and chokecherry (Padus virginiana ssp. melanocarpa) <br />accounted for one-fourth. The balance was contributed by mountain snowberry, <br />Gambel's oak (Quercus gambeliQ, bitterbrush (Purshia tridentata) and prickly rose (Rosa <br />sayi). <br />Wadge Pasture Reclaimed Area <br />Woody Plant Density Data (Table 7) <br />Native shrubs averaged 335.9 stems per acre. Big sagebrush contributed three-fifths of <br />this total. Mountain snowberry contributed nearly two-fifths of this total and the <br />remaining balance was accounted for by Saskatoon servieeberry. <br />Mountain Brush Reference Area <br />(Photographs 9, 11-12) <br />Cover (Table 8) <br />Native shrubs were the dominant lifeform in this area and contributed 61.4 percent of <br />total vegetation cover. Mountain snowberry contributed more than one-third of this total. <br />• Both saskatoon serviceberry and Gambel's oak contributed more than one-fourth of this <br />lifeform's total. Chokecherry, Wood's rose (Rosa woodsiQ, silver sagebrush, and big <br />sagebrush made minor contributions. Native perennial cool season grasses contributed <br />16.5 percent of total vegetation cover. Agassiz bluegrass accounted for nearly half and <br />elk sedge (Carex geyen) averaged more than one-fourth of this lifeform's total. Nine <br />other species made minor contributions. Native perennial (orbs averaged 16.0 percent <br />of total vegetation cover. Horsemint (Monarda fistulosa var. menthifolia) contributed <br />more than one-third of this total. Nettle-leaf giant hyssop (Agastache urticifolia) <br />accounted for nearly one-fifth of this total. Seventeen other species accounted for the <br />balance. Introduced annual and biennial forbs averaged 3.4 percent of total vegetation <br />cover. Hound's tongue (Cynoglossum officinale) accounted for more than nine-tenths of <br />this total. The only other contributor was bull thistle. Bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum <br />ssp. lanuginosum) accounted for 1.7 percent of total vegetation cover. Both native <br />annual/biennial forbs and introduced perennial forbs contributed 0.4 percent of total <br />vegetation cover. The two main native annuals were linearleaf collomia (Collomia <br />linearis) and Douglas knotweed (Polygonum douglasir), while the two main introduced <br />perennial forbs were Canada thistle (Breea arvensis) and dandelion (Taraxacum <br />officinale). Quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides), a native tree, contributed 0.2 percent <br />of total vegetation cover. <br />Total vegetation cover was 66.2 percent. Litter and bare soil were 24.2 and 9.6 percent <br />respectively. Species density was 34.3 species per 100 sq.m. <br />U <br />
