I
ANNUAL REPORT FOR OCTOBER 10, 1988 . PERMIT ANNIVERSARY
PORTLAND QUARRY PERMIT NO. 77-344
------------------------------------------------------
FREMONT COUNTY, COLORADO
IDEAL BASIC INDUSTRIES, INC.
On March 24 , 1988 , Governor Roy Romer, on behalf of the Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Board presented the Portland Quarry with
an Award in recognition of the reclamation effort at the Portland
Quarry. This is indeed an honor, for the Quarry , the Portland
Plant and Ideal Basic Industries . Sincere thanks are extended to
all of the Mined Land Reclamation people .
The status of the mining areas follow:
1 . Location and Number of Acres Affected During the Year.
There has been no change in acreage affected since 1987 .
Shown below is a summary of the areas .
Total Permitted Area 1526 Acres
Current Affected Area, Bonded 330 . 25 Acres
Minor Disturbance, Seeded, ready for
seeding, and receiving sewer sludge . 146 . 25 Acres
Moderate Disturbance, Stabilized waste,
roads , overburden and working areas . 94 Acres
Major Disturbance , active quarry areas . 90 Acres
Cut 1 Sewer sludge being spread on this area except the
topsoil stockpile at the north end. Most of the road
areas are covered with topsoil . Seed has been
requisitioned for the topsoil stockpile and the
former road areas .
Cut 2 The seeding on the east side of this cut doing well
especially since the sewer sludge has been applied.
A haul road has been placed over part of the refuse
dump and the dump will be extended to the south as
required.
Cut 3 Work will commence on a perimeter road later this year
that will allow topsoil covering of the haul road
through the center of this area . As in Cut 1 , grass
seed has been requisitioned for reclamation of those
areas left open for haul roads .
Cut 4 Access to the bottom of the eastern portion has been
eliminated to permit kiln dust dumping and placement
of overburden materials from cut # 6 . The western half
of this cut has been filled with overburden.
