• averaged 5.7 percent of total vegetation cover. Smooth brome (Bromopsis <br /> inermis) accounted for more than one-half of this total. Orchard grass <br />(Dactylis g/omerata) and intermediate wheatgrass (Thinopyrum intermedium) <br />contributed the balance. The total vegetation cover of introduced perennial <br />forbs averaged 4.8 percent of total vegetation cover. Cicer milkvetch <br />(Astragalus cicer], Canada thistle (Breea arvensis), and alfalfa (Medicago <br />sativa) were all contributors. Japanese brome (Bromus japonicus), an <br />introduced annual grass, averaged 3.9 percent of total vegetation cover. <br />Introduced annual and biennial forbs averaged 3.9 percent of total vegetation <br />cover. Prickly lettuce (Lactuca serriola), twolobe speedwell (Pocilla biloba), and <br />salsify (Tragopogon dubius ssp. major) all contributed to this total. Native <br />shrubs averaged 2.2 percent of total vegetation cover. Wood's rose (Rosa <br />woodsii) and big sagebrush (Seriphidium tridentatum) each contributed <br />approximately two-fifths of this total. Saskatoon serviceberry (Amelanchier <br />• alnifolia) contributed the balance. Native annual and bienial forbs averaged 1.7 <br />percent of total vegetation cover. Bigfruit willowherb (Epilobium <br />brachycarpum) accounted for one-half of this total. Linearleaf collomia <br />(Co/lomia linearis) and Canadian wild lettuce (Lactuca canadensis) contributed <br />equally to the balance. Bryophytes averaged 1.3 percent of total vegetation <br />cover. <br />Total vegetation cover was 30.5 percent. Standing dead, litter, bare soil, and <br />rock cover values were 0.7, 48.1, 19.1, and 1.6 percent, respectively. Species <br />density averaged 29.0 species per 100 sq. m. <br />Production (Table 2) <br />Total herbaceous production for all species other than alfalfa was 1295 <br />• pounds per acre.
