Such drainage could probably be achieved by drill-
, ing drainage holes from the mine tunnels.
W
R
NT
O
ATE
5.5 SURFACE
CO
R
L
' During the wet period of spring 1980, a considerable
amount of surface water was observed on the steep slope
' between the upper and the lower bench. It is not known
whether this water was just a result of the snow melt or if
' its origin was related to some aquifers within the slope._
It will be necessary to design and construct a reliable
surface drainage system at the upper bench prior to the place-
' went of the future waste rock pile. This drainage system will
have to be installed also for different reasons (compliance
' with regulatory agencies' requirements).
' S.6 P40NITORING
' Ponitoring of slope deformations is a powerful and re-
liabletool in dealing with potential stability problems. It
' helps to verify the predictions of the slope behavior and it
can comprise a reliable warning system. Any larger slope fail-
' ures are usually preceded by minor deformations which can be
detected early by the monitoring system.
' 47e feel that such a monitoring system should be estab-
lished within the area of the upper bench and within the area
of the proposed mine entries so that the slope behavior could
be monitored from the very beginning of the construction period
' The system should be established prior to the driving of the
tunnel entries which comprise the first serious factor that
eeo~roao co~.w~nwe, iHe.
