' - 17 -
The section which was used for the analyses is shown
on Plate 6, Computer Modelling. This section is based on the
' geotechnical profile C-C'
presented on Plate No. 5. The
,
section shows the topographical configuration, approximate
' interpretation of the landslide deposits, the surface of the
upper bench, and both the F and E coal seams. It shows the
location of the waste rock pile; the location of the pile toe
was assumed to coincide with the assumed crest of the upper
bench, or being 100 or 200 feet away from this crest. The
section shows two arbitrary failure planes, one of them.coin-
t tiding partly with the bottom of the F seam, the other one
coinciding partly with the bottom of the F seam. During the
' analyses, the upper outcrop of the failure plan was limited
at various distances from the assumed crest of the upper bench.
Data on the physical properties of the soils and rocks
in the profiles were based largely on the results of the
' back-analysis of the profile (in this back-analyis it was
assumed that ground water exists within the F seam, with the
' piezometric pressure of 40 feet above the bottom of the coal;
it was assumed that the slope has a factor of safety close to
' unity).
' The physical properties of individual soil and rock
types used for the analyses are listed on Table 2.

1

'
~coNroro coww~ne~c, iNC.
