' inorganic soils (sandy gravels) selectively borrowed from on-site sources as shown on the
Drawings. Gradation of this material shall allow a maximum particle size of less than 1-1/2
inches where in direct contact with a synthetic liner and three inches otherwise. The gradation
shall be as follows:
U.S. Standard 4o Finer by
Sieve Size Weieht
1 3!8 inch > 65
114 45-95
1110 25-65
N40 5-30
' /t200 < 10
Type l material will be in direct contact with the synthetic liner, where utilized as a pervious
drainage blanket underlying the main embankment. The initial dumping shall be confined to an
area outside the limits of the lined area. In no instance shall material be directly dumped on the
liner. The dumping of material inside the lined azea shall be allowed only when sufficient area
' has been achieved such that damage to the liner will not occur. To the extent practicable, the
bedding material shall be dumped to minimize the distance the material must be pushed.
6.2.2 T,y~e 2 Material
The Contractor shall furnish, transport, and place Type 2 material to the lines and grades, and
in the locations shown on the Drawings and set forth in the Specifications, or as specified by the
' Engineer.
Type 2 material shall be utilized for the construction of an upstream face of the phase 1 main
embankment overlying Type 1 material, as well as the drainage blanket covering the disposal
azea floor. Type 2 material shall be selectively borrowed from the impoundmrtnt area, or as
directed by the engineer. Type 2 material shall consist of inorganic soils (sands) having a
' maximum particle size of 1-1/2 inches and the following gradation:
U.S. Standard 3'o Passing by
'
Sieve Size Weieht
' 3/8 inch >90
q4 > 75
1110 55-95
' /t40 25-75
k200 < 35
-l3-
