i <br />' S.2 Access Roads <br />' Contractor s access roads shall be planned in such a manner that excavation of said roads shall <br />coincide, to the extent practicable, with the construction of a permanent road and other <br />1 excavations associated with the project. Prior to development of access roads, the Contractor <br />shall submit a plan showing their location and size for the Engineer's approval. <br />' S.3 Borrow Areas <br />' Borrow areas shall be established, as necessary, for bedding materials and supplemental <br />embankment materials. The location, physical dimensions, and depth of stripping shall be <br />' identified by the Engineer prior to commencement of work requiring such borrow material. <br />Within borrow azeas, cut slopes shall be maintained at 3:1 or less. <br />' 6.0 FILL MATERIALS <br />' 6.1 General <br />' The embankment, disposal area drains, access roads, and other appurtenant facilities incorporate <br />different types of fill material as specified herein. Fill materials shall be obtained from approved <br />sites and local borrow areas. Road base and drain materials shall be either produced in the <br />' vicinity of the site or imported. Selective borrowing of materials will be required. <br />No embankment or synthetic materials shall be placed until the foundation and subgrade <br />preparations have been completed and approved by the Engineer. Subsequent placement of fill <br />shall be made only in areas approved by the Engineer. Placement of the fill shall be done to the <br />lines and grades shown on the Drawings. <br />' Fill shalt be placed in neaz horizontal lifts unless otherwise approved by the Engineer. Fill <br />placement procedures and equipment shall be organized and suitable for wnstructing a relatively <br />uniform fill meeting minimum density and/or compactive effort requirements, if required. Fill <br />' surfaces shall be graded to drain as materials aze placed. The Contractor shall dewater or <br />provide drainage for ponded water conditions in fill areas. <br />' The procedures for the construction using fill materials shall be discussed with, and approved <br />by, the Engineer prior to placement. In particulaz, construction procedures shall be such to <br />' prevent damage to synthetic liners and contamination or damage to drain pipes. Construction <br />procedures shall incorporate methods for minimizing traffic over initial lifts of fill above these <br />-i t- <br />1 <br />
