During the 2003 water yeaz concentrations of the major ions (alkalinity, bicazbonate, <br />calcium, chloride, magnesium, manganese, and sodium) remained within observed historic <br />ranges or slightly below historic ranges in Springs 3 and 4. Values vary for constituent <br />concentrations between the springs; therefore brief descriptions of the trends will be <br />presented. Concentrations of the major ions in Spring 1 were consistently much lower than <br />those of Springs 3 and 4. This is not unexpected given the topographic position of Spring <br />1 neaz the upper surface of the topographic rechazge area. <br />A~calinity (as CaCO3) <br />Alkalinity concentrations vary relatively widely for the springs. Alkalinity concentrations <br />at Spring 1 were the lowest of the springs at 202 mg/L during the March 2004 sampling. <br />Spring 3 has values ranging from 312 to 455 mg/L over the past ten water years. Spring 4 <br />has shown consistently lower concentrations than Spring 3, ranging from 242 to 440 mg/L <br />over the same period. The average concentration has not changed significantly over this <br />period for either spring. This water yeaz, Spring 3 concentrations decreased to a historic <br />low within recorded observations (310 mg/L). Spring 4 alkalinity concentrations remained <br />at levels above the all-time low in water yeaz 2002 to concentrations within the historic <br />range prior to water yeaz 2002. <br />Bicarbonate <br />. Concentrations of bicarbonate at both Springs 3 and 4 have overall decreased slightly over <br />the past ten water years. With one exception, the highest concentrations for both springs <br />were reported during the fourth calendaz quarter of 1994 and the lowest concentrations <br />during the prior two water yeazs. Bicazbonate concentrations at Spring 1 were the lowest <br />of the springs sampled in water yeaz 2004 at 202 mg/L. Bicazbonate concentrations aze <br />generally higher in Spring 3 (ranging from 312 to 555 mg/L) than those in Spring 4 <br />(ranging from 230 to 537 mg/L) over the past ten water years. As with alkalinity, the <br />Spring 4 concentration was the lowest recorded during the first quarter of the 2002 water <br />yeaz. The concentration has since returned to within the historically observed range. <br />Calcium <br />Calcium concentrations at the springs have remained consistent over the past ten reporting <br />years. Spring 3 concentrations (ranging from 400-515 mg/L) remain higher than those of <br />Spring 4 (ranging from 280-388 mg/[.). Calcium concentrations appeaz highest during <br />low flow conditions and aze less during higher flow in the spring. Spring 1 has <br />significantly lower calcium concentrations than Springs 3 and 4. <br />Chloride <br />Chloride concentrations at Spring 3 over the prior nine water years have remained <br />consistent, ranging from 34 to 50 mg/L throughout the period.
