pH
pH values of the springs fluctuate seasonally, with values generally remaining on the
slightly basic side. The pH values aze not particularly well correlated to season or spring
temperature, though in general, pH values appeaz correlated to flow, with lower (more
neutral) pH values during higher flow conditions. The pH value at Spring 1 was the
highest of all springs recorded at 8.56 last water yeaz (WY2003) but attenuated this year
to a more neutral pH (7.6), As there ate only two recent measurements for pH from this
spring, it is unknown whether this represents a normal fluctuation or is indicative of a
trend. In general, Spring 3 has higher flow and lower overall pH values than Spring 4. In
water yeazs 1995 and 1996, pH values fluctuated through the seasons, being lower during
high flow and higher during low flow times. During the prior three water yeazs, pH values
at both springs have shown very slight increases in the alkaline range. The pH at Spring 3
peaked during the first quarter of water yeaz 2001, and showed a slight decrease in water
yeaz 2002, a slight increase in water year 2003, and a decrease this water year to values
consistent with those of the mid-1990's (7.28-7.31), Spring 4 pH peaked in water yeaz
2002, decreased through water yeaz 2003 to 7.51, and increased this water year to 8.02.
Based on the values from the last ten yeazs this appeazs to show a slight overall rise in the
pH level in Spring 4.
Electrical Couductivity (EC)
• Electrical conductivity (EC) is directly related to the concentration of ions in the water.
As would be expected, the springs overall show decreased electrical conductivity readings
during the high flow conditions of late winter and eazly spring and increased values with
decreased flow. Spring 1 exhibited the lowest EC value of all springs sampled this water
year with a Mazch 2003 value of 392. This value appeazs consistent with the value from
the 2003 sampling. EC values for Springs 3 and 4 during the 2004 water year were lower
than those from water years prior to 2001. This may be related to the overall drier
conditions over the last several yeazs.
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS)
Total dissolved solids (TDS) concentrations were consistent this water year when
compared to readings from prior water years. TDS concentrations decrease with a
corresponding decrease in flow, temperature increase, and pH increase at the springs. As
in the case of EC, Spring 1 had the lowest concentration of TDS this water yeaz. Overall
TDS concentrations have remained fairly consistent in Spring 3 and have increased slightly
in Spring 4. Total suspended solids (TSS) concentrations were not measured this water
yeaz. Spring 4 TDS levels returned values within the historic range after a spike in TSS
concentrations during the first quarter of water yeaz 2002. The spike is now considered
an artifact of sampling.

Carlrai Junctlan Mira Page 5
Mnual f(ydrobgk Report for Water Year 2004
