• NATURAL SPRING MONITORING
Two natural springs, SWl and SW2, located over previously ittined areas itt the Southwest Mining District
required monitoring during 1999. Quarterly flow, field parameter, and water quality samples are required for
these sites. All required monitoring was completed during 1999. Tables 62 and 63 provide summaries of data
collected at these sites during the year. No unusual water quality characteristics are apparent. No Flow at site
SWI was observed during 1999. SWI Flows typically occurred throughout the year prior to mining. SW2
exhibited flows through the spring and summer of the 1999 Water Year. SW2 flows were historically sporadic
during the period prior [o mining. TCC will continue to monitor these locations.
One natural spring (20-1 A) located in the vicinity of proposed future underground mining areas required semi-
annual flow/field parameter attd water quality sampling during 1999. Monitoring requirements were met at this
site in 1999. No flows were recorded during 1999. Monitoring at the site was initiated in 1987 and flows have
historically been minor (see Figure 122). Conductivities historically exhibited by the spring are presented as
Figure 123. A statistical water quality summary for [he site is presented as Table 57a.
SPOIL SPRING MONITORING
• Two spoil spring sites, 7 and the 303 series, require monitoring under the approved program at TCC. Spoil
spring 7 is monitored in accordance with the approved spoil spring monitoring program. The spoil spring
monitoring program was initiated in 1986 and is conducted annually. In accordance with the approved plan, [he
annual mine wide survey is conducted during May with springs measured for Flow and field parameters. If a
spring is discharging at or above 3~ gallons per minute, i[ is monitored for the next year in accordance with the
monitoring plan.
During the 1999 Water Year, spoil spring 7 flow was not measured in excess of 35 gpm and consequently
additional monitoring requirements were not triggered. Quarterly Flow and field parameter data along with semi-
annual water quality sampling is required from this site in addition [o the spoil spring monitoring requirements.
As no flow was observed at this location during the 1999 Water Year, no measurements or parameters could be
obtained. 1999 Water Year data for this site is presented as Table 58. A statistical water qualit}• sutnmary for [he
site is presented as Table i8a.
The 303 series spoil springs require monitoring on asemi-annual basis for flows, field parameters, and water
quality samples. Water quality samples for these sites, historically, have been obtained from composite site 87-I.
Tables ~9 through 61 provide summaries of the 1999 Water Year data collected at each 303 series spoil spring.
Table 59a provides a period of record statistical summary of collected data at site composite 87-I. Figure 124
provides a graphical representation of period of record field conductivity for spoil spring 303-1.
•
-10
