BOX 2182 <br />D URANG O, COLORADO 81302 <br />August 23, 1990 <br />T0: National King Coal, Inc. <br />r~ <br />OFFICE !O] i47~O11B <br />RESIDENCE ]97•]SSOO <br />SUBJECT: Quarterly Subsidence Monitoring, Third Quarter 1990 <br />1) The third quarterly visual inspection for subsidence, King <br />Coal Mine, La Plata County, Colorado was made on a bi-weekly <br />basis from July 1 through August 23, 1990. <br />2) Previously reported tension fractures in surface soil in <br />the SW; NE; SE a, Sec. 31, T35N, R11W have extended eastward <br />another 35'. This is the limit of pillaring along the south <br />edge of Section no.l North - no further fracturing should <br />occur in this area. <br />3) A single tension fracture was noted in the SW; SE; NE ;, <br />Sec. 31, T35N, R11W. The fracure is anomalous in that it bears <br />N40°E rather than parallel to workings. Length of the fracture <br />is 55' and varies in width from hairline to 0.1'. The fracture <br />is south of the Huntington Ditch, 100' to 55'. This fracture <br />occurs over the central portion of Section no.l North, which <br />has been pillared. <br />4) This site has been surveyed by Clifford Schmid, L.S. and <br />will continue to be monitored. <br />5)Although there is no apparent danger to the ditch at this <br />time, the ditch will be lined to prevent water infiltration <br />and to protect ditch owners rights. <br />ed M.
