1
The water quality data for the Twentymile Sandstone wells is summarized on
' Tables 5 to 7. The data does not indicate any trends that appears related
to the underground mining. Both wells have a field conductivity level of
' approximately 850 umhos/cm. This is within the range expected for the
unaffected aquifer. The data does not indicate any significant changes jn
the trace metal concentrations. The water in well 006-82-48A is mixed tyke
with no dominant cation and sulphate as the dominant anion.
The water quality data for the Wadge Overburden aquifer wells is summarized
on Tables 8 to 12. A plot of dissolved solids is presented on Figure 7.
' The plot does not indicate any trends that appear related to the underground
mining. Due to the collapsed casing in well 006-82-48 the recent water
' quality data is suspect. The water is a sodium-sulphate; the data does not
indicate any significant changes in the trace metals concentrations.
' Alluvium
' Sediments in the Foidel Creek valley up and downstream of the portal area
are monitored. Also, the sediments in the Fish Creek valley within
t Twentymile Park are monitored. Four wells completed in the Foidel Creek
alluvium are monitored. Five wells completed in the Fish Creek alluvium are
' monitored.
Water Levels - The plots of the historic water levels in three Foidel Creek
' alluvial wells are presented on Figures 8 to 10. A plot of the historic
water levels in some of the Fish Creek Wells is presented on Figure 11. The
t water levels in the wells show the typical seasonal pattern of relatively
rapid increase and decline due to spring runoff.
1

1

While the seasonal variation in water levels in the Foidel Creek alluvium is
readily apparent, no impact from the underground mining is evident. The
average water levels in the three wells, adjusted for differences in spring
runoff, has not changed since monitoring began in 1979. Since the
underground mining has not yet approached Fish Creek, no Impacts are
likely. The Fish Creek water level data is presented for baseline purposes
only.
' -4-
