~~~
' - The break is ductile; or
' - The strength of break is as specified in Section 4.2.12.5 of these Specifications.
A break through the weld is considered anon-FTB failure if the break is ductile and if the
strength is less than the required minimum. The Contractor shall repeat the test in its entirety
'' when the test seam sample fails. When repeated test seams fail, the Contractor shall not use the
seaming apparatus, or operator for welding until deficiencies or conditions aze corrected and two
consecutive successful field test seams are achieved.
I 4.2.10 HDPE/VLDPE Tie-In Connection
When the design involves HDPE material to be connected with VLDPE material, the following
procedure shall be instituted:
1 - For geomembrane, overlap of HDPEJVLDPE shall be at a minimum of 5 to 6 inches.
At no time will any horizontal slope seams be accepted;
' A fusion welder shall be used only to tack the two materials. The fusion welder shall
have a temperature setting not to exceed the required temperature allowed for VLDPE,
not HDPE;
- Once material has been tacked, the overlap shall be trimmed and the seam shall be
ground;
' - Extrusion welding shall be accomplished by using only very low density polyethylene
(VLDPE) rod or beads to join the VLDPE and HDPE; and
- Vacuum testing shall be allowable as non-destructive test method used to accept this area.
' The Engineer will observe the entire operation and document non-destructive testing.
4.2.11 Anchor Trenches
i Anchor trenches shall meet all requirements as set forth in these specifications and as shown on
' the drawings. Any changes must be submitted to the Engineer in writing prior to excavation
andfor geomembrane placement. Anchor trenches shall at all times be clean of large debris
' (trash, rocks, etc.). All sharp edges shall be smoothed prior to geomembtane deployment.
' -ta-
