The other area of mining is on the south edge of the shaded area (Snipped for
Mining -see next section). A couple of benches have been created in this area and topsoil
applied to part of the area.
Although not shown on the map, mining during 1997 will expand downhill from
the small mining area and into the shaded area. It cannot be determined for sure h~~w far the
mining will expand into the shaded area, but probably half of this area will be mired to some
extent. Perhaps a fourth of the shaded area will be completed with mining during 1997.
Stripped for mining (11.5 acres) -During late 1995 and into early 1996 snipping
proceeded on this area. Timber was retrieved by the contractor who did the clearing. Soil was
stripped from a major part of this area and placed in locations where it can be easily replaced
on adjacent benches as they are created and completed. Stripping further to the east would
have been permissible if the 56 acre permit boundary was valid. But because Cenu;nnial
recognized early in the process of developing the permit amendment that the 56 acre boundary
was questionable, Centennial did not expand the stripping beyond the original 40 acre permit
boundary. Within the original permitted plan, this is the last area to be mined. In the
amendment, this area will be reclaimed in basically the same way as it would under the
existing permit. That is, when the land within the shaded area (and the small mining area) are
reclaimed that reclamation will be final reclamation.
It should be noted that within the "Affected land at time of report" boundary there are
some small areas that are not covered by any kind of shading or pattern. These areas total
approximately 2.4 acres and have either not been affected or have been affected very slightly.
The affected land boundary could have been extended around those areas but because they are
adjacent to and often downslope from major to moderate disturbance categories they were
considered part of the 48.8 acres of affected land.
Menzer Quarry 1996 Annual Report IM-76-009-HR) Dec 31, 1996 Page 2
