i
About 35$ of the total permit area was affected in the last year. The
remaining land which was not affected this year but which was affected the
previous year is about 2 to 9 percent of the total permit area. The rest
of the land is still in its original condition.
WEST OF ACADEMY BOULEVARD:
Processing - The processing area remained essentially unchanged from
the previous year. Most of the area west of Academy is used in processing
the sand. The area delineated as "processing" on the map refers to the
area used directly in the washing, stockpiling, and distribution of the
sand products. It does not include settling ponds and the like which are
shown as separate entities.
Settling Ponds - These ponds, shown in orange on the map, are no
longer used. The location and extent of these ponds is essentially
unchanged from the previous year.
Settling Pond - The same settling pond which was shown on last year's
annual report map is still being used. However, in the next year this will
probably be completed and a new pond location will be established.
Mixed Uses - The area of mixed uses has no specific use, but is used
for a wide variety of features including roads, some stockpiling, storage
of equipment and the like. The area was essentially unchanged from the
previous year.
Graded - This area is in a temporary reclamation status. It will
enter a permanent reclamation status when the sand dike is removed and the
entire area graded for the final reclamation configuration.
Mining - The mining areas on this side of Academy Boulevard are minor
in extent. The areas along the highway are being reduced to the final
level as time permits and will continue in this status for some time. The
small area of mining just north of the permit boundary and the dry settling
ponds is part of the excavation which is occurring as part of the removal
of the sand dike. Although this area is outside the permit for this
operation it is within the permit for Castle Concrete Company's Sand Pit
operation. This removal is being done in accordance with the Sand Pit
permit and under a joint effort by these two sister companies to remove the
dike at the soonest possible time. During the next year it is expected
that much of the Daniels Sand Company mining will occur in this area.
Reseeded - This small area near the entrance to the operation was
reseeded two years ago and was mentioned in last year's annual report.
However, it was not shown on last year's map as a separate area under a
reclamation status.
FILE 73-7 ANNUAL REPORT - 1987/1988 PAGE 2 OF 6
