~~~~~ ~~
DANIELS SAND COMPANY D
MINED LAND RECLAMATION JAS 11 190,,8
ANNUAL REPORT FOR PIT #2 (~E A9jNE
FILE N0. M-73-7 C~'41~ ~ ~91~(~j
REPORT PERIOD: JAN. 7, 1987 TO JAN. 6, 1988 A rI~A1 V~~~,,~~
ANNIVERSARY DATE: JANUARY 7, 1988
DATE OF DATA COLLECTION FOR REPORT: DECEMBER 1987
SUMMARY: During the past year, the operation changed little from the
previous year. This was due primarily to the very poor demand for
aggregates in the last year. The lack of construction in the Colorado
Springs area has had significant and very drastic effects on all the
aggregate producers in this area. On the vest side of Academy Boulevard
the features changed little from the previous year. On the east side of
the highway, the changes were more significant, but certainly could not be
characterized as being great in extent. As a result of the lack of
production no land vas ready to be placed into a reclamation status.
However, work near the end of the year began to shoe an impact on the
removal of the dike of sand between this operation and Castle Concrete's
Sand Pit operation to the north. Although most of the sand removed from
the dike in the last year was done by Castle Concrete, a joint agreement
between the two companies has allowed both companies to operate the dike in
an effort to remove the structure as soon as possible. The faster the dike
is removed the sooner the reclamation plans for both operations can be
merged and the land made available for possible development.
RULE 2.41(11: LOCATION AND NUMBER OF ACRES AFFECI~D DURING THAT YEAR.
The annual report maps included with this report show the two major
portions of the Daniels Sand Pit #2 operation. Academy Boulevard divides
the operation into two portions. They are connected via a tunnel culvert
underneath Academy Boulevard. Most of the extraction work occurs east of
Academy while the processing of the sand is performed on the vest side of
the highway.
The acreages affected during the last year differed little from the
previous year. In fact, there was actually a slight reduction in the land
which was actually affected IN the last year. Although precise acreages
were not measured, it is estimated that about 70 acres were affected on the
west side of Academy and about 90 acres on the east side of Academy. This
is a reduction of about 10 acres over the land affected in the previous
year. Most of the reduction was not due to removal of operational land by
means of reclamation, but simply due to not operating some land which was
operated in the previous year. This was due to the low demand for
material.
FILE 73-7 ANNUAL REPORT - 1987/1988 PAGE 1 OF 6
