October 2000 5
• Purge Volume Calculation
G=V*3
Where: W =Depth of Well (feet}
D =Depth to Water (feet)
C =Gallons per foot for casing or borehole diameter
V =Well Volume (gallons)
G =Target purge volume if well does not go dry (3 well
volumes, in gallons)
Field pazameters (pH, temperamre, and conductivity) will be measured during purging and
purging will continue until field parameters stabilize. Parameters aze considered stabilized when
three consecutive readings of conductivity and temperature aze within a ±10 percent change and
three consecutive pH readings are within ±0.2 pH units. Meters used to measure field
parameters will be calibrated according to manufacturer's recommendations immediately prior
to purging. All field parameter values will be recorded on a field sampling form or in a field
book.
L
Purge water generated during the sampling events will be discharged on the ground at or near
the well site unless previous analyses have indicated that groundwater contamination has occurred
at that well location. If analytical results indicate that groundwater contamination has occurred,
purge water will be containerized and disposed in accordance with state and federal regulations.
2.5 Sample Collection, Preservation, and Shipment
Sampling will be conducted immediately following purging with the same equipment used for
purging. For those wells that were purged dry and aze slow to recharge, sampling will be
done as soon as practical but will not extend beyond 48 hours. Every attempt will be made
to collect the volatile organic compound (VOC) samples from the slow recharging wells within
24 hours of purging. If sufficient volumes cannot be collected within 48 hours, sample
collection at the subject well will be suspended until the next monitoring event and any
• partially filled sample bottles will be submitted to the laboratory for limited analysis.
ioo9.ooc Sedalia Reryeling Center and Oeposifory
