Kaiser Ventures, Inc. <br />Facility: Chimney Rock Mine, C-81-023 <br />Pond Identification: Pond Number 002 <br />Type of Pond: Sedimentation. Farth till embankments. Corrugated metal pipe trickle tube <br />(with metal baffle plate) primary spillway. Riprap lined earth emergency <br />spillway. <br />Rules 4.05.9 (10) and (11) <br />The requirement for this section of this certification is Rules 4.05.9 (10) and (11) of the Regulations of the <br />Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board for Coal Mining. <br />(al Existing and required monitoring procedures and instrumentation. <br />Inspections of the pond are required quarterly [Rule 4.05.6(]3)and 4.05.9(13)]. Quarterly inspections were <br />made on 328/96, 627/96, 927ryti, and 29 October 1996. <br />A stake to assist in estimating water and sediment levels (instrumentation, Permit, Para 2.05.3, Page 2.05-2, <br />Rev.3-1-94) is in the pond. <br />(b) The design depth and elevation of am impounded waters at the lime of the initial certification report or <br />the average and maximum depths end elevations of env impounded waters over the oast veer for the annual <br />certification reports. <br />A datum is [he top of the embankment at 100'. Based on quarterly inspection reports, the 1996 average depth <br />(water level minus design bottom elevations) and elevation of impounded waters was 1.0' and 89.0'respectively. <br />The maximum depth and elevation was 3.2' and 91.2' respectively. <br />fc) Existing storege caoecity of the dam or embankment. <br />The existing storage capacity of the dam is estimated to be approximately 2.2 acre feet (from the equivalent <br />sediment level to the invert of the emergent' spillway). <br />(d) Anv fires occurring in the construction material up to the dote of the initial certification or over the past <br />year for the annual certification reports. <br />No fires were reported up to the date of the initial certification, and no indication of fires in the construction <br />materials of the dam was observed during the past year. <br />(el Anv other ascent of the dam or embankment eReMing stability. <br />None. Sparse protective vegetation leaves a potential for erosion of the embankments.
