Division of Miuerels end Creology - tipem Ort Smdy
Solid Samples

FINAL REPORT
A total of nine (9) solid samples, each contained in a sealed 5-gallon plastic bucket, were
received on 9/11/95. Moisture content was measured on each solid sample by air drying a
sample split at room temperature for several days. The sample LD.'s and moisture contents
are listed in Table 2.
Table 2: Solid Sample LD's and Moisture Content
Sample L D. Sample splits used for testing
were then removed directly Irom the each sample container using a large scoop.
TEST DESCRIPTION -Single Contact Batch Leachability Testing
Single contact batch leachability tests were performed on selected solid samples toy combining
measured quantities of "as-received" solid sample and synthetic meteoric leaching solution in
one-gallon plastic screw cap jars. The synthetic leaching solution was prepared by adjusting the
pH of deionized water to 5.0 with a dilute fiO/4(1 mixture of sulfuric and nitric acids. This
solution was selected to approximate the chemistry of natural precipitation likely w occur in
Colorado. Below is a summary ul test conditions utilizxd during each batch test
-2:1 liquid to solid ratio
-24 hour contact time.
-continuous mixing during contact time achieved using bottle roll appamuas.
-solid/liquid separations accomplished utilizing a pressurized filter press.
Analytical samples of leachate generated from each batch test were further prepared by 0.45um
membrane filtering and appropriately preserving prior [o submittal for the required analyses.
CHEMAC ENVIRONMENTAL tiERVICES 2 November, 19Y5
