Division of Minerals end Geology - Spem Ore Study
INTRODUCTION

£/NAL REPORT
This report contains results of test work performed on various samples of mine water and spent
ore collected from selected mine sites in Colorado. The test program was designed to generate
analytical test results that could be used in a comparative study of spent ore materials collected
from sites with varying disposal characteristics.
Single contact batch leachability test experiments were performed on all of the spent ore samples
submitted to characterize the current Leachable characteristics of each materiaV. Analytical
parameters examined in leachates generated from each batch test included major ion chemistry,
cyanide species, and a selected set of heavy metals. In some cases, mine water samples
associated with spent ore materials, were also collected and analyzed for a ximilar set of
analytical parameters.
In addition to single contact batch tests, the leachable characteristics of two selected spent ore
samples were examined in more detail by conducting sequential batch tests on each. These tests
were comprised of multiple sequential contacts between liquids and solids thereby providing a
more detailed picture of their potential environmental behavior with respect w the analytical
parameters examined.
TEST MATERIALS and PREPARATION PROCEDURES
Mine Water Samples
A total of four (4) mine water samples were received in coolers on ice on 1)9/11/95. The sample
I.D.'s are listed in Table 1 below.
Table 1: Mine Water Samples
Sample LD. NaOH preserved samples
for P-1 and P-4 were submitted "as is" for cyanide analysis since they had been preserved at the
time of collection prior to filtering. Little to no suspended material was observed in these
samples.
CHEMAC ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES L Noeember, 1995
