The following outlines the
Division's review.
Annual H, dv rology Report
The probable hydrologic consequences (PHC) section of the permit application states that the
mine has potential to increase the sediment load of surface waters adjacent to disturbed areas, but
predicts that the sediment ponds treating disturbed area runoff will adequately reduce sediment
load prior to release off-site. Streams within and adjacent to the permit area are not expected to
be adversely impacted by subsidence; Steven's Gulch and East Roatcap will be protected under
the approved subsidence control plans. The PHC further states, regarding groundwater, that no
groundwater impacts area anticipated within the mine site, due to a lack of groundwater
resources. No regional groundwater impact is expected from subsidence, and any significant
change in groundwater quality is expected to be negated by dilution. The Division based its
review on a comparison of the PHC and monitoring data to date. The surface water monitoring
data that was reviewed supports the PHC predictions. The Division has the following
comments:
The following required data are missing from the 1996 Annual Hydrology Report.
a. All required data for ponds 14-1 and 14-2 (quarterly Flow/water level and
field parameters, annual full suite analysis).
