Banta.
Division D~rcctor
February 4, 1992
Steamboat Springs, Colorado 80477
RE: Grassy Gap - C-81-039 Annual Hydrology Report
Mr. Robert Peterson
ACZ, Inc.
1475 Pine Grove Road, Suite 109
P.0. Box 774018
Dear Mr. Peterson:
The Division has completed its review of the 1991 Annual Hydrology Report,
Pond Inspections, and Spring and Seep Survey for the Grassy Gap Mine. Given
the fact monitoring will continue until final bond release/forfeiture and that
date is yet unknown, my comments and recommendations are based on this report
and any submitted in the future.
Most reports are submitted to the Division for a water year, October to
September. Given the limited amount of water monitoring, the Division is
not opposed to using a calendar year if you so desire.
2. Please submit a map showing all NPDES monitoring points as well as
surface and ground water monitoring locations. Many times a staff
hydrologist who is unfamiliar with the site is assigned the task of
reviewing the annual hydrology reports. Having a map included in the
report allows the specialist to quickly orient themselves and eliminates
confusion due to monitoring changes and outdated or incorrect maps.
3. Along the same lines, baseline or historical quantity and quality data
are normally submitted and we also ask that the permittee make some
general conclusions on impacts (if any>. It is understood that ACZ may
not have significant baseline data, but future years AHRs should include
these items. Historical data is many times submitted using averages,
tables, graphs, etc.
4. It appears that the September sample was submitted for full suite quality
testing in October. Please explain this discrepancy.
STATE OF COLORADO
