11. On monitoring point table page 60 of the 1999 AHR, no Fourth quarter full suite
monitoring of Sheep Corral surface water D2-1 was taken, although the flow rate was 0.4
gallons per minute. Please explain.
12. On monitoring point table page 81 of the 1999 AHR, no fourth quarter full suite
monitoring of Steven's Gulch surface water location Steph-low was sampled, even
though the flow rate was 0.3 gallons per minute. Please explain.
13. On monitoring point table page 88 in the 1999 AHR, there is no full suite sampling for
DH-l6 for 1999, even though there is water in the well. Please explain this omission. In
addition, the water level recorded in this well for 9/10/99 is over 320 feet higher than just
three months before. Please explain.
14. The 1999 AHR monitoring point tables for drill holes DH-57, DH-58 and DH-58a show
only one sample was analyzed for each monitoring hole during 1999. Table t of the 1999
AHR shows that semi-annual full suite and quarterly field pazameters aze to be sampled.
Please explain.
15. The footnotes for DH-58 and DH-SSa, on monitoring point table pages 97 and 98
respectively, state that the baseline data was gathered for a period from 1905 to 1997. Is
this a misprint or has there been reliable data during that length of time?
16. The monitoring point table for TC-up is missing from the 1999 AHR. Please submit this
page for inclusion into the report.
17. Monitoring point table page 85 shows a flow rate of 50 cubic feet per second for the
3/29/99 sample of location TC-west. This appeazs to be a misprint. Please revise if you
agree. Also, please explain why there is no full suite analyses for TC-west, even though
all quarterly field parameters show flow.
1999 Annual Mine Inflow Report
BRL reported that the total mine inflow from natural sources averaged less than 10 gallons per
minute. BRL also reported that there were no mine water discharges in 1999.
Due to completion of the Deer Trail Ditch water metering system, BRL was able to calculate that
the consumptive water use at the Bowie No. 2 Mine was about 31 acre-feet of water for every 1
million tons of coal mined. This calculation does not include water loss from pond evaporation,
which was estimated to be 2.0 acre-feet per year. At this rate, the consumptive use, not including
pond evaporation, for 5 million tons of mined coal per year would equal 155 acre-feet of water.
This is less than the estimated consumptive use of 234.6 acre-feet, not including pond
