This letter is divided into three sections that correspond with the three sections of
the annual report.
1999 Annual Hydrology Report
The Division agrees with BRL's summary and conclusions as they relate to water quality and
quantity at the Bowie No. 2 Mine. It does not appear that there have been any negative impacts to
the hydrologic regime due to mining at the Bowie No. 2 Mine. As far as specific items that aze
contained in the 1999 Annual Hydrology Report (AHR), the Division has the following questions
or comments:
In the data presented in the 1999 AHR, there are quite a few springs, two surface water
sites (Steph-up and TC-west) and four ground water sites (DH-13, AW-2, AW-8 and
AW-10) that are missing baseline full suite analyses. This is even though, apparently,
enough water was present to be sampled. In addition, at some sites (5-10, Steph-up, DH-
13, DH-57, DH-58, DH-58a and AW-2), the field baseline data is absent, even though,
apparently, water was present that could have been sampled. Please explain.
111 IIII111111111111
sss
STATE OF COLORP~DO
2. In the monitoring point tables presented in the 1999 AHR for surface water and ground
water sampling sites, there aze several required chemical parameters that are missing from
the full suite baseline and full suite regular hydrologic monitoring. Please explain.
