• Revegeta[LOn <br />S eedlnc and Planti <br />A total of 49.3 acres were permanently seeded in the north mine block of the Seneca II-W <br />Mine In 1998. Seeded areas included 49.3 acres seeded with Seed Mix No. 1 - Upland Sites <br />and, Ephemeral Drainages and supplemented with additional forb and shrub seed, see Table <br />98.3 and Table 98.9. There were no permanent revegetation activities in the south mine <br />block. Seeded and shrub planting areas are shown on drawing 2W9B-3. Seeding was completed <br />with a Laird rangeland type drill seetler. A copy of the seed tag:; is included under the <br />SEED TAG exhibl t. A11 permanent seeding was completed rn late September and early October. <br />Shrub Seedling Planting <br />During September 1998, 5320 containerized native tree and shrub seedlings were planted rn <br />prepared plots ai Seneca II-W mine. A crew from Bitterroot Native Growers, Hamilton, MT <br />planted 3330 seedlings in shrub plot 2W9B-1 (3."73 acres and 1990 seedlings were planted in <br />shrub plot 2W98-2 (2.95 acres(. See Tdb1E 99.5 for a complete shrub species and numbers <br />listing. All seedlings were 10" con[alneri zed [uDlings grown from seed collected near <br />• Seneca Mine and Created with mycorrhizal inoculant prepared from Seneca soils. In addition <br />to the tubl ings, SCC reclamation personnel direct seeded these plots with shLUb iRix N1 <br />Table 98.4. See drawing 2W98-3 for the to ca tlon of seetl ed areas and shrub plots. <br />Mo nl to ri nq <br />Reveg elation monitoring of permanently revegetated areas was conducted during the summer of <br />1998 by ESCO Associates, Inc. The 1998 annual revegetation monitoring [epo r[ is submitted <br />as a separate document (ESCO and SCC, 1999. <br />Weed Control <br />Survey of noxious weeds was carried out on the mine permit area during [he 1998 field <br />s ea scn. Weed coot ml activities were conducted only along the mine entrance road, near <br />Pond 005, Pond 006 and Pond 009. Canada thistle ICi[sium arvense) was the target species <br />in !rontcol areas. The applied herbicide consisted of a tank mrx cf 2.5 gallons of 22 K, <br />Tordon and 2.5 gallons of 2, 4,-D with 250 gallons of wafer. A spot spray gun vas used to <br />concentrate control activit[es on target areas. The herbicide mix was de[ermi ned from <br />Colorado State Uni ve rslty extension office information and label instructions. All <br />Pesticides were applied by an EPA co rtified applrcato r. These weed control areas will be <br />monitored in 1999 co determine the effectiveness of [hrs treatment. <br /> <br />
