A comparison can be made between results of the 1984 and
1985 sampling years. The weighted average for 1984 was 225 shrubs per acre.
The sampling for 1984 was conducted on areas in the third growing season or
older. A weighted average for the 1985 sampling for areas in the third
growing season or older is 313 shrubs per acre. This indicates that shrub
densities are increasing over time. This trend needs to be monitored to
verify that shrub densities will continue to increase to meet the permit
requirement of 1,000 shrubs per acre.
3.4 PRODUCTIVITY
The post-mining land use for the Hayden Gulch Mine is~rangeland; therefore,
productivity is a primary concern for supporting livestock and wildlife. The
productivity for each area is listed below.
' Pounds of Dry Matter/Acre
Reclamation Year Grasses Forbs Total
t
1981 & 1982 1,714 155 1,869
' 1983 885 13 898
' A weighted average for herbaceous production i s 1,631 pounds per acre. The
weighted average far production for 1984 was 2,498 pounds per acre. The
decrease in production from 1984 to 1985 is due to the lack of moisture
during the summer months.
' -9
