Lone
Orvision Direuor
The Division has completed review of the 1997 Annual Hydrology Report (AHR) for the Golden
Eagle Mine. Two comments were carried over from the 1996 review. The Division notes Table
3.1-1, Golden Eagle Mine Well Data. The infomtation in this table satisfies the Division request to
indicate well measuring point elevations. Also, a discussion of possible drawdown north of the
mined area is included in this years report, as indicated in Greystone's 1996 responses.
Analysis of Data and Determination of Impacts
Monitoring Frenuency
A considerable improvement over 1996 was noted regarding compliance with the approved
monitoring plan in terms of frequency and sampling requirements. All samples and site visits were
conducted as required.
Surface Water Quantity and Quality
Two stations on the Purgatoire River are monitored for flow and field parameters on a quarterly
basis, and a lab sample is analyzed on an annual basis. PRS-2 is located upstream of all Golden
Eagle mining activities and PRS-3 is located downstream of all mining activities. One water
sample was conducted at each of these locations, in accordance with the annual sample list on page
2.05-47d, Table 23 of the permit. Flow is slightly higher (7%) at the downstream site and water
quality is effectively un-changed, with EC values of 267 umhos/cm and 259 umhos/cm from
upstream to downstream. Overall water quality is within the standards for all uses.
~~
STATE OF COLORADO
T~vo surface water stations are monitored on Ciruela Canyon. CCS-1 is located over SW 1 longvvall
panel which was mined in the (ate 1980's. No flows were recorded for 1997 in this ephemeral
