<br />RULE 2.41(4): THE SPECIES OF VEGETATION PLANTED, THE LOCATIONS AND <br />APPROXIMATE DATES OF PLANTING. <br />No planting occurred during the previous year. <br />RULE 2.41(5): THE TYPE AND APPROXIMATE QUANTITY OF FERTILIZERS, ORGANIC <br />MATERIAL, OR SOIL CONDITIONERS USED AND LOCATION OF USE. <br />No soil amendments were used during the previous year. <br />RULE 2.41(6): AN APPRAISAL OF THE SUCCESS OF RECLAMATION EFFORTS, AND <br />IN THE EVENT OF FAILURE OF ANY EFFORTS, A SHORT NARRATIVE ON THE <br />SUSPECTED OR DETERMINED CAUSE OF SUCH FAILURE. <br />A detailed investigation of the vegetation on the visual berm has <br />not yet been done this year, but is planned for early in the next permit <br />year. A cursory inspection revealed that changes from the previous year <br />were rather minor but apparent. <br />There appeared to be a slight increase in the density of the <br />grasses and legumes and there appeared to be somewhat more native <br />species apparent. The trees and shrubs appeared to have over-wintered <br />well as was expected because of the mildness of the winter. Growth <br />occurred somewhat earlier this year than last due to the rapid warm up <br />this spring. Moisture levels in the soil appeared to be excellent and <br />early May rains and snows helped increase this. It is anticipated that <br />the seed production particularly by grasses will be rather great this <br />year. <br />RULE 2.41(7): ESTIMATES OF THE LOCATION AND NUMBER OF ACRES TO BE <br />AFFECTED IN THE COMING YEAR. <br />During the next year, most of the mining will occur in the west end <br />of the open pit. Under the new amended, plan waste is to be disposed of <br />in the bottom of the pit. Therefore, excavation to the maximum depth is <br />necessary at the base of the west wall. <br />It is anticipated that during the latter part of the next year, <br />mining will begin in the Phase I area of the amendment. This will <br />initiate the reduction of the west wall and improvement of the visual <br />characteristics of the quarry. It is possible the plant will also be <br />moved from its current position to a location closer to the west wall so <br />as to reduce the haul distance. It appears that this could also improve <br />the problem with visible dust originating from the crushing operations. <br />Although dust abatement is used, some fugitive dust still leaves the <br />plant. Moving westward would improve matters in that the dust would <br />probably settle long before it would leave the quarry area. <br />2 <br />
