Location: Top Bench Central Quarry
Fertilizer: 350 lbs per acre 18-46-0
Organic Material: Approximately 1500 cubic yards of
well rotted manure was mixed with
approximately 2000 cubic yards of
"growth medium". This mixture was
used as topsoil and the quantity was
sufficient to cover the backfilled
and sloped areas by a depth of 12 to
18". Some of the "topsoil" was also
pushed over the highwall edge in
hopes that pockets of soil would
settle on small ledges and in cracks.
Mulch: Straw mulch was applied at a rate of 2 tons per
acre and tacked into place with Terra-Tac.
6. An appraisal of the success of reclamation efforts, and
in the event of failure of any efforts, a short
narrative on the suspected or determined causes of such
failure.
The reclamation efforts undertaken prior to this
report period appear to be successful. Several
species of grasses are present, the surviving
woody species are putting on 3 to 5 inches of
growth yearly without any supplemental water, and
some new species are appearing from local seed
sources.
The fill slope East of the load-out bins was
planted after the spring rains in 1984. The first
years growth was sparse and weedy. Spring of
1985, produced a good cover by the grass species
and amazingly few weeds. Six of the Ponderosa
Pines died and were replaced.
The top bench of the Central Quarry was planted
prior to the 1985 Spring rainy season. It is too
early to assess success of failure.
7. Estimates of the location and number of acres to be
affected in the coming year.
No additional disturbances beyond the 68 acres is
anticipated. Two areas already previously
disturbed will continue to be mined. As benches
