Following are Minrec's <br />responses to the Division's concerns: <br />2) There have never been any springs or seeps observed at the <br />waste disposal area. There is no indication a spoil aquifer <br />has developed in the reclaimed waste disposal area. <br />7) In future AHRs, the table presented on page 2 will include <br />units for TDS. <br />8-9) A review of Permit Volume 8 of 8, the Hydrology and Alluvial <br />Valley Floor Report, prepared by Kaman Tempo, for the Red <br />Canyon Mines, indicates well E-1 was developed to determine <br />the water level in the E-Seam aquifer. A pump test was <br />performed in well E-1 to calculate aquifer characteristics. <br />An aquifer drawdown prediction is presented in the report. <br />The Kaman Tempo report concludes that ground water drawdowns <br />in the D and E Seams are projected to extend for considerable <br />distances from the mining operation; however, the coal seams <br />are not used as a source of water in the vicinity of the Red <br />Canyon Mines. (page 98) <br />Mining at the Red Canyon ceased in 1984. I do not believe the <br />mine was dewatered after 1984. Since that time the DMG and <br />the operator have looked for a method to determine the water <br />level in the mine. The 1987 AHR predicted the water level in <br />the mine would reach the water level in well E-1, 6355', in <br />1993. In 1994, the water level in well E-1 was measured at <br />its highest recorded water level, 6367.3' 10.1 feet higher <br />than its historic average. This was of some concern at the <br />time because it is remotely possible the water in the mine had <br />influenced the water level in well E-1. The water level in <br />
