~/
Dr. Carl Johnson, M.D., M.P.H.
November 10, 1977
Page 2
•
2. A gamma radiation survey was conducted along the truck route
through Golden. There were no elevated readings observed
that would indicate that uranium ore or ore dust had been
spilled in any significant quantities along the road side.
3. The Colorado Highway Patrol was contacted regarding the
regulations governing the transportation or such materials.
The Colorado Motor Vehicle Law, Title Part I, Traffic
Regulations General paragraph 42-4-1208 was cited as applying
to this situation which would prohibit spilling such materials
on roads. A copy of this paragraph is enclosed.
4. The Cotter Corporation was contacted regarding the transporta-
tion of the ore. They were informed of the laws regarding
such spills, and they indicated they would take measures to
insure that the laws were complied with. In subsequent
discussions with Cotter Corporation personnel, they stated
that the trucking firm had covers designed for the trucks,
evaluated the covers and found that they were satisfactory.
The covers were ordered for all the trucks. Some covers
have been received and are presently in use with all trucks
expected to be covered by January, 1978.
• Based upon the analysis of the samples and upon the gamma radiation '
survey, it is not indicated that there has been any radioactive material
deposited that presents any hazard to health.
If you need any further information, please feel free to call my office.

Sincerely,
Albert J. azle, Director
Radiation and Hazardous
Wastes Control
AJH:wsr
Enclosure: As stated
cc: City of Golden
Cotter Corporation
u
