Mr. R. Cattany
10/18/07
2007 Annual Report of Reclamation Activities
Permiee Name Homestake Minin Com an
Permit Number: M-77-215
O eration.Name Bulldo Reclamation Pro~ect
Anniversa Date: October 31, 2007
Total Fees: $633.00 due on the Anniversa Date
Permitted Acrea e: 432.809 acres
Count where reclamation site is located: Mineral
This mine has been closed since 1988 with final closure and reclamation program
activities being initiated in 1994.
The following reclamation activities occurred at the site during late 2002 and to date
in 2007:
Installation of drainage by-passes along the Windy Gulch drainage at the
9360 and 9700 waste rock disposal areas was completed during the 41h
quarter, 2002. Soil growth medium application on portions of the 9360 and
9700 waste rock disposal areas was completed after installation of the
drainage by-passes. Soil materials were obtained from the uppermost
section of the Lower Tailings impoundment dike, as approved by Technical
Revision to the Reclamation Permit. Due to the onset of Fall weather
conditions, final grading and revegetation was postponed until 2003. Final
site shaping and regrading, seedbed preparation and reseeding activities on
site disturbances were completed in Spring/early Summer, 2003. Visual
inspection of vegetative establishment was initiated in 2003 and has
continued to date in 2007 during periodic visits to the site. During the week of
August 20, 2007 an initial revegetation survey on reclaimed site disturbances
at the project was conducted utilizing a vegetation resource consultant.
Results of that survey, including vegetation data on established reference
areas, will be included in a report that is under preparation currently.
2. Due to very light winter snowpack and continued drought conditions, no
measurable flows were observed in Windy Gulch during 2003; as a result, no
water samples were collected pursuant to permit approval requirements with
DRMS and the US Forest Service. Measurable flow was evidenced in
Spring 2004 and water quality sampling and streamflow monitoring in and
along Windy Gulch was completed. This was the first flow that occurred in
Windy Gulch since installation of the streamflow by-pass structures along
Windy Gulch at the 9360 and 9700 waste rock disposal sites. During Spring
meltoff 2005 flows were again observed in Windy Gulch and water quality
sampling and flow monitoring was again pertonned. An abbreviated Spring
runoff period with small flows was observed during 2006; one water quality
sample was taken and an attempt to collect a second sample during the
meltoff period revealed little flow in Windy Gulch. As such, a second
representative water sample for Windy Gulch streamflow was not taken.
Reports on monitoring results for 2004 and 2005 were filed with DMG and the
USFS on August 9, 2004 and October 7, 2005, respectively.
