4.OSAMPLING AND ANALYSIS
This section describes the media and chemicals that will be sampled and analyzed. First, the
toxicity, fate and transport characteristics, and regulatory drivers of the potentially released
chemicals in the potentially affected media are evaluated. This evaluation supports the
selection of chemicals and media targeted for sampling and analysis and the analytical methods
that will achieve the necessary detection limits. Then the sampling and analysis approach for
each targeted media is presented, including sample types, numbers, locations, and analyses.
' Finally, the sampling procedures, analytical methods, QA/QC program, and the investigative-
derived waste management plan are presented.
Although some information indicates there may have been a possible release of one drum of a
dilute antifreeze and water solution at the site, antifreeze constituents are not targeted for
investigation under this SAP. Antifreeze consists of ethylene or methylene glycol or other
' similar compounds. These compounds are readily biodegradable in most environmental media
and are no longer expected to be present in detectable concentrations at the site. Also, glycols
are virtually non-toxic except when ingested in large quantities, which is a practical impossibility
at this site. Therefore, this SAP does not consider antifreeze a chemical of potential concern.
4.1 Toxicity, Fate and Transport Characteristics, Regulatory Framework
Important to selecting the chemicals and media targeted for sampling and analysis is an
understanding of the toxicity, fate, and transport characteristics of these chemicals in the
potentially affected media. This information is summarized in Table 2 and is discussed below.
Table 2
Toxicity, Fate, and Transport Parameters of Targeted Chemicals
.. ....... ~ .. ..... ueow :: .......:..::..:::.:: .........:... ...::.., ., ...,........
..
..
,....
.:::: :::~ ~ .,.
