The total acreage summary and relative status of the acreage are graphically
illustrated on the following page. Five interrelated acreage changes occurred for
1999. The former A-Pit azea is now fully reclaimed and revegetated. The
"topsand" acreage decreased due to topsand usage for A-Pit, A-Pit access road,
and other area reclamation. The "roads and sediment pond 2" acreage decreased
due to the reclamation of a portion of one of the B-Pit access roads. The "other
non-reclaimed azeas" acreage increased correspondingly since this B-Pit access
road reclamation is in progress, but not complete. The total area reclaimed and
revegetated increased by 17.9 acres (15.3 acres in A-Pit and a portion of the A-
Pit access road, and 2.6 acres to the south of topsand piles A-1 and B-1).
Additional Reclamation Information:
The total 413 acres disturbed by the Keenesburg Mine coal extraction operation
can presently be assigned to one of the following catagories:
- Acreage in active mining areas (presently being reclaimed) = 58.4
- Acreage backfilled and graded (ready for topsand and seeding,
or previously seeded and growing) = 212.3
- Acreage designated long term mining or reclamation facilities = 142.3
The number of acres to receive topsand in 1999 was 20.0, which brings the total
acreage receiving topsand, since reclamation activities began, to approximately
218.8 acres. The reclamation and revegetation of 17.9 acres during 1999, brings
the total number of acres seeded or planted to approximately 214.2 acres. Of this
total, approximately 134.0 acres have been seeded for at least ten years.
AHR-1999
-I15-
