1
1

David and Ginger Slatten
2412 North Taft Hill
Fort Collins, CO 80524
July 12, 1988
Larimer County Commissioners
Larimer County Courthouse
Fort Collins, CO 80521
Dear Commissioners:
RE STERLING SAND AND GRAVEL APPLICATION FOR SPECIAL REVIEW
Since Sterling Sand and Gravel's initial filing of its
application for special review in February, 1988, this matter has
been before the Larimer County Planning Commission, the County
Commissioners, and the Fort Collins Planning Board. The
Planning Commission denied the application; the County
Commissioners did not get a chance to vote on the matte;^ because
Sterling withdrew its application because it was not prepared
(only to be refiled two days later and then withdrawn a~~ain at a
later date); and the City Planning Commission denied th~a
application. Now we are back at the Planning Commission again
because Sterling is now prepared to present its case. liow many
times can Sterling submit and withdraw its application )~efore it
becomes financially impossible for the surrounding homeowners to
fight it?
Purchasing our home in November, 1987 was a big financial
' step for us and having to put out the amount of money we have to
fight Sterling has been a real burden. We feel we need to fight
this application in order to keep the quality of life wEa thought
' we were getting when we bought our property and to save the value
of our property. To date, we have spent in excess of $:L,000 for
attorney's fees and expert fees and now have additional
attorney's fees and costs of approximately $300.
We again urge you to deny the application for mining in this
area and ask for your support in helping us stop this t}ape of
' frivolous abuse of the system.
Sincerely,I~~-,~~~
Dav' L. Slatten
' Gingerat
