This report is submitted to comply with <br />all the environmental monitoring requirements at the Colowyo mine as specified in Mining <br />Permit C-81-019. ' <br />The 1999 report continues to follow the same format as previous reports submitted to and <br />approved by the Division. <br />Backfilling Grading and To soil Replacement <br />During 1999 approximately 70.8 acres were backfilled, graded, topsoiled and seeded. 131.4 <br />acres of additional disturbance occurred during annual topsoil removal operations <br />necessary for pit advances. (Note that this total disturbance acreage includes areas with a <br />topsoil stripping variance). The distribution of the acreages between pits during 1999 is as <br />follows. See Exhibit 9 - 1999 Annual Report for locations of these areas. <br />Pit Area Disturbance (~cresl Reseeded (acresl <br />West Pit 65.8 7.9 <br />East Pit 16.1 37.5 <br />Section 16 49.5 25.4 <br />Total 131.4 70.8 <br /> <br />During 1999 Colowyo received approval of Technical Revision No. 48 which provided for a <br />modification to the postmining topography in the vicinity of the NE corner of the West Pit Fill. <br />To implement this revised topography, portions of the 1995, 1996 and 1997 reclaimed areas <br />had to be redisturbed by topsoil removal and the placement of additional spoil material . <br />
