The information assembled in this 1998 Annual Hydrology Report (AHR) Includes data
collected from approved monitoring altea established at Seneca Coal Company`s (SCC) Seneca
II Mine (State Permit No. C-80-005). Locations of monitoring Bites discussed in this
report can be found by referring to Exhibit 7-2, Hydrology Monitoring Site Location Map,
which may be found in the Seneca II Permit Application Package (PAP). All references to
1998, or to "this yeaz", will be for Water Year 1998 (October 1, 1997 through September
30, 1998) unless otherwise noted. All tables referred to in the following text can be
found in Appendix A. In addition, a table of contents for Appendix A is given at The
beginning of that appendix.
For this year, mining progressed as indicated by the shaded areas on Figure 1 (Appendix
A). The last of the Wolf Creek coal ras removed in August 1997. No Wedge coal ras mined
this Water Year, although some was removed later in 1998.
Field conductivity and pH tuatara axe calibrated prior to each day's use. The conductivity
metes is calibrated using a potassium chloride solution with an electrical conductivity in
• the 1000 to 3000 umhos/cm range. The pH meter is calibrated using NBS traceable buffers
with pH values of 7 and 10. Prior to October 1, 1989, all field conductivity values
collected at Seneca II monitoring sites rate not corrected fox temperature li.e., 25° C).
Field conductlvi ty data starting on October 1, 1959 were temperature corrected to 25° C.
The formula for correcting non-corrected conductivity data may be Pound in the 1990
through 1992 AHRS.
SCC instl toted in 1995 a new monitoring site numbering system far its ner Paradox"+ rater
quality database. This ner system is detailed in Table A. For convenience sake, this
table has been placed at the end of the Table o£ Cantente (Bee previous page). In
addition, Table 3, S++mm=*y of Ground Water Monitoring walla; Table 9, Summary of Surface
Water Monitoring Sites; and the Table of Contents of Appendices B through E have all been
revised to correlate the old site (and map) name to the ner (Paradox) computer name. The
ner computer name will be used throughout the following tezt.
Several changes to the hydrologic monitoring program rare made last year in Permit Renewal
No.3, rhich was approved on June 19, 1997. Those changes rare discussed rn the
• Introduction to the 1997 AHR. The new monitoring program is nor auvmuirized in table form
