• 4.1.3 Lab Operation /Sanitation
In 1997 operations continued in the lab to provide analysis for process control and USP product
and regulatory requirements. Several crucial process control analysis were performed by the
plant operators. Chloride levels were measured on the run-of-mine product twice per shift and
patch tests were run once per shift to measure insolubles. Bi-weekly analysis of raw water was
performed. Pests were controlled with the use of 2 large UV bug lights, rodent traps placed
around the inside perimeter and an ultrasonic bird repeller in the warehouse. Semi-annual
GMP/sanitation training was provided to increase awareness. One sanitation audit was
performed by the American Institute of Baking and resulted in an "excellent" rating.
4.1.4 Process
• No significant changes were made in 1997, see Figure 4-1 for process flow sheet illustrating
operations.
4.1.5 Utilities
In 1997, a second rental boiler was utilized to provide additional mining heat.
4.1.6 Buildings
The two rental boilers were consolidated on the west side of the plant and a temporary
enclosure was constructed over the boilers.
•
11
