• implemented in 1997. BLM, EPA, and DMG approval was obtained for new production wells
3A-4H, 3A-5V, (cavity #3A) and 1A-4HI, 1A-5HR (cavity #1A). DS-2 well was added in 1997
and provides additional continuous water level data which has been obtained from EX-2, 90-2,
93-2M and 4-1 V monitoring wells since 1996. Data is available in the control room of the plant,
this allows continuous feed back of recovery efficiencies by monitoring potentiometric changes
in the Dissolution Surface aquifer. As a result of new production wells, the EPA bond was
increased to $138,642.
The Colorado Department of Health (CDH), Water Quality Control Division reissued a new
storm water discharge permit, which is valid for five years.
• The CDH, Air Pollution Control Division (APCD), approved use of two temporary boilers in
1997. An emission permit fora 6.275 million BTU per hour boiler was determined to be
exempt, but an Air Pollution Emission Notice or (APEN) was required and approved. Initial
approval of an emission permit, and certification notice for the permit was completed fora 12.55
million BTU per hour boiler.
Five undesirable event reports were filed in 1997. An overFlow of the process pond into the
waste pond (1 ), pipeline leaks (3), and a diesel leak were submitted to the BLM and DMG. No
notices of noncompliance were issued in 1997.
