I•
•
2001 Annual Hydrologic Report Page 5
The Rollins Sandstone wells are numbered Rollins 1, 2, 3 & 4 on data page GE-1.
Rollins-1 is an underground well located in the North Portal and was under artesian
conditions. It was sealed as of December 1999. Rollins-2 is located at the unit train
loadout. Rollins-3 is located at the north decline. Rollins-4 is an underground well
located in the South Portal. It was sealed as of April 2000.
Mine Water
There was no annual mine inflow study performed this Year since one was performed
during December 1999 and reported in the 1999 report. Since the North and South
Portals have been sealed, there will not be any additional mine inflow studies.
Consumptive Use
Consumptive use during the year was for drilling water and dust suppression. No
records of this minor amount of consumptive use are available.
Impacts
The total dissolved solids for the mine discharges calculated with monthly TDS and
monthly flow for the Year comes out to be 169.5 tons for 001, 878.4 tons for 002 and
0.0 tons for 004 fora total of 1047.9 tons. The following table presents the total TDS
discharged from the mine during the three prior years.
TOTAL DISSOLVED SOLIDS (Mg/I)
Outfalls 001, 002 & 004 001 & 002
Water Year 1998 1999 2000 2001
TDS (Tons) 2214 1797 1399 1048
The 2001 TDS discharge represents 0.09% of the 1.2 million tons calculated to be
carried by the River. Discharge from the Roadside North Portal, outfall 004, has
ceased. At the Roadside South Portal, water is expected to perpetually discharge.
Roadside South Portals outfalls 001 and 002 will be replaced by outfall 016 during the
2002 water year.
