Less understandable are iron and sulfate, constituents that diminished in proportion from <br />above the mine to below. Sulfate was present at 230 mg/1 above but only I mg/l below. <br />The averages for the downstream monitoring point have historically been much higher <br />(around 350 mg/1) and have consistently been lower upstream than down. No <br />explanation can be offered for this observation. <br />Iron was also higher upstream than down (0.34 mg/1 to 0.00 mg/1), another observation <br />that runs counter to previous observations. Historically those analyses have been as <br />predicted. <br />Please request that EFC provide an explanation for the apparent reversal of the <br />trend of iron and sulfate in Oak Creek. <br />In summary, the AHR appears to adequately review the groundwater and surface water <br />conditions as far as the remaining monitoring points have allowed. <br />Points of Compliance <br />The groundwater flow at the Southfield Mine indicate that the downgradient well - MW- <br />65 -can adequately serve as a groundwater point of compliance. <br />cc: Sandy Brown <br />
