would warrant an immediate move of an asphalt plant to this
location. We continue to operate at the Clear Creek site and
will do so until the situation changes.
The actual quarry operation is still being conducted in
accordance with the recommendations of THK associates. The 20'
berm on the east has been reseeded and improved. The original
purpose of the berm remains the same, to screen the quarry
operations from high visibility from populated areas. Shale
material was hauled and placed as an extension of the 20' berm
area in 1986. This screening berm progression has been topsoiled
and seeded.
The floor of the quarry continues to be graded and maintained at
all times so that runoff drainage is directed toward the
southwest corner of the site where a detention pond gathers all
runoff. The three previously constructed detention storage ponds
are in daily use for recycling dust suppression water and
collection of fine particle settlement. The ponds are at an
average depth greater than the 4' specified and are provided with
proper outlets. These ponds are cleaned during the winter and
contents incorporated into the topsoil and used for revegetation
purposes.
The mining will continue as per the stages originally submitted
and is in compliance with the THK Associates and Asphalt Paving
Co. application to the Jefferson County Board of Adjustments
concerning its mining operations over the life of the mine.
Asphalt Paving Co. continues to make improvements and to upgrade
the operation. We are committed to providing a quality operation
and a safe work place.
Reclamation continues to be accomplished as per the
recommendations of THK Associates and will continue per the
stages included and submitted with that plan. The crested wheat
grasses, along with blue gamma and rye grasses, are rolled and
compacted into the soil after seeding to insure limited wind
loss. On-site reclamation is being expanded in an ever-widening
semicircle as mining is completed. Reclamation signs have been
installed to alert all incoming visitors that reclamation is an
important part of our activity.
During this past year, no additional reclamation was
accomplished. Inasmuch as the quarry operation has not ceased
operations, the remaining flat benches have not been addressed in
this report. Our mining, however, has continued northward. We
continue to expose new rock, bench by bench.
A reclamation bond continues to be provided to the Colorado Mined
Land Reclamation Board as well as Jefferson County in the
monetary amount defined by the Land Reclamation Board and is
• S
