RALSTON QUARRY ANNUAL REPORT
Crushing Equipment: The changes made in our crushing operations
during the winter of 1989 continue to result in benefits for both
our operation and environment.
The "chip spread" located west and north of the main crushing
operation was eliminated entirely. There is no longer a separate
chip production area requiring its own activities. As a result,
there has been a significant reduction in fugitive dust, both
from the crushing operation itself and from the front end loader
traveling across the quarry floor feeding this crusher. Further,
a portable generator (diesel engine powered) that ran the spread
was eliminated as well. This move has improved air quality,
eliminating stack emissions, etc.
The chip production was incorporated into the main crushing
plant. At the present time, there is only one crushing operation
which produces all of the aggregate products we manufacture and
use.
The incorporation of the chip operation into the main plant was
• facilitated by the purchase of a new impact crusher. The
introduction of this piece of equipment into the spread has
necessitated revamping and upgrading other parts of the
operation. Existing conveyors have been realigned. New
conveyors have been built. Cone crushers and screen decks have
been repositioned to be more efficient and productive.
Notwithstanding the above, there has been no change with regard
to the primary crusher (Baxter Jaw) and associated feed hopper
and ground conveyor. There has been, however, an addition to
the feed process related to this primary jaw crusher. A 992C
Caterpillar front end loader (12 cy machine) has been added to
the operation. As the mining activity (drilling, shooting and
extraction process) has moved further and further away (north)
from the jaw, it has become necessary to increase the feeding
capacity with a larger machine. As a result of adding this
larger, newer machine we have also been able to eliminate an
older, smaller one (988B Caterpillar). The net result is that we
still have two front end loaders charging the feeder that feeds
the jaw crusher. One 988B Caterpillar wheel loader continues to
feed this primary crusher with material brought down from the
higher benches by an 8K Caterpillar dozer.
Security Fencin4, Roads, Pit Configuration: Asphalt Paving Co.
continues to comply with Exhibit A of our application to the
• Jefferson County Board of Adjustments as it relates to fencing.
As previously noted, the north pit boundary fencing was moved and
