,
•
CASTLE CONCRETE COMPANY'S
MINED LAND RECLAMATION
1983 ANNUAL REPORT
PIKEVIEW QUARRY
77-211
INTRODUCTION: During the 1982/83 permit year,
mining proceeded on Tracts AA and WDT (limestone fin). The
new road was nearly completed in early May, 1983, with only
minor work needed on sediment control systems. The abandoned
road was regraded and seeded. Test plots were established
and the ecological succession study was initiated on the
south end of Tract AB. A technical revision to initiate
mining in Tract AC was also approved.
Rule 2.41(1): Mining occurred over an area of
about 4 to 5 acres throughout the year. Generally, this was
the same area mined the previous year, except for mining of
the limestone fin on the Tract AA/WDT boundary.
Stockpile, plant and shop areas remained unchanged.
During the winter, work began on the new access road with
use beginning in early May. As a result of a last minute
design change in the connecting road, a change required by
the City of Colorado Springs, cut slopes were unfortunately
built taller than expected and fill quantities were greatly
reduced from the originally planned 50/50 balance between
cut and fill. As a result, very little waste was taken from
Page 1 of 3
