1 ~ Of the species encountered, four perennial grasses, one annual grass, and one annual
forb represented greater than three percent relative cover. These species were:
I Calamovilfa longifolia (33.00%), Andropogon hallii (21.67%) Bromus marginatus
J (18.67%), Bromus tectorum (6.00%), Sporobolus cryptandrus (5.00%), and Erigeron
bellidiastrum (4.67%).
~1
1987 RECLAMATION AREA
The 1987 Reclamation Area encompasses approximately 44 acres of reclaimed pit in
' the south central area of the Keenesburg Mine permit area. The 1987 Reclamation
Area is composed of two parcels (west and east) separated by a north-south haul road
corridor. This area is nearly flat with a gentle slope (< 1 °) to the south and east.
' Reclamation and coincident revegetation within this area took place in 1987. Replaced
soils were generally sandy in texture. Specific sampling information for the 1987
Reclamation Area is contained in Table 5 and Table 9.
1 Vegetation Cover
' Total vegetation cover of the 1987 Reclamation Area was 46.00 percent. Based on
cover sampling, graminoids provided 39.00 percent mean cover (83.96% relative
cover), fortis accounted for 5.40 percent mean cover (13.65% relative cover),
' + succulents provided 0.2 percent mean cover (0.34% relative cover), and shrubs
represented 0.6 percent mean cover and 2.05 percent relative cover.
' The dominant plant species was Calamovilfa longifolia (prairie sandreed) at 26.00
percent mean cover (56.31% relative cover). Additional significant species included;
Agropyron cristatum (crested wheatgtass) at 2.80 percent mean cover (7.17% relative
cover), Erigeron bellidiastrum (annual daisy) with 3.00 percent mean cover (6.83%
relative cover), Bromus marginatus (mountain brome) with 2.60 percent mean cover
' and 5.46 percent relative cover, Agropyron dasystachyum (thickspike wheatgrass) with
2.20 percent mean cover (4.10% relative cover), and Bouteloua gracilis (blue grams)
with 1.80 percent mean cover and 3,07 percent relative cover.
' i
c material)
Vegetative litter (prior years growth, dead wood, and other biologic organ
comprised 35.40 percent ground cover within the 1987 Reclamation Area. Bare soil
' comprised 18.40 percent of the ground cover. Rock provided 0.20 percent of the
ground cover encountered in the 1987 Reclamation Area.
' Herbaceous Production
' Total herbaceous production on the 1987 Reclamation Area was 497.4 glm2 (4433.7
Ib/ac). This value represented the highest level of herbaceous production encountered
• 1995. Perennial grasses dominated herbaceous
in any of the areas sampled in
2
production, contributing 400.7 g/m (3571.8 ]b/ac) or 80.5 percent of total herbaceous
-10.
