• comprised 16.40 percent of the ground cover encountered in the 1985 Reclamation
Area. No rock was recorded in the cover sampling.
' Herbaceous Productiou
' Total herbaceous production on the 1985 Reclamation Area was 480.0 g/m2 (4278.6
Ib/ac). Perennial grasses dominated herbaceous production, accounting for 438.6 g/m2
(3909.6 ]b/ac) or 91.4 percent of total herbaceous production. Annual grasses
2
' (76.6 lb/ac), or 1.8 percent to herbaceous production in this area.
contributed 8.6 g/m
Perennial and annual forts were nearly equally represented in the production sampling
in this area. Perennial forts provided 17.9 g/m2 (159.6 Ib/ac), or 3.7 percent to
' herbaceous production, while annual forts accounted for 14.8 g/m2 (131.9 lb/ac) of
the reference area herbaceous production. Annual forts provided 3.1 percent of the
' total herbaceous production in this area.
Species Diversity
'
Within the 1985 Reclamation Area three lifeforms were represented. The total number
of species encountered during cover sampling was nineteen. The sampling encountered
12 species of perennial grasses, one annual grass species, three annual forts, two
perennial forts, and one succulent species. Of the species encountered on the 1985
Reclamation Area, 11 were native and eight were introduced. Perennial species
'
• outnumbered annual species by fifteen to four. Seasonality of 1985 Reclamation Area
species was split between cool season, warm season and evergreen species. Eight
' graminoids were cool season species and five were warm season species. All fort
species were identified as cool season. The succulent species was evergreen.
' Of the species encountered, nine perennial grasses represented greater than three
percent relative cover. These species included; Bromus marginatus (24.32%),
Calamovilfa longifolia (20.21%), Agropyron cristatum (15.75%), Poa compressa
' (7.19%), Sporobolus cryptandrus (5.82%), Andropogon hallii (5.14%), ,4gropyron
dasystachyum (4.79°6), Bromus tectorum (4.45%), and Bouteloua gracilis (3.42%).
' 1986 RECLAMATION AREA
' The 1986 Reclamation Area encompasses approximately 47 acres of reclaimed pit in
the central area of the Keenesburg Mine permit area. The 1986 Reclamation Area is
' composed of three parcels (west, central, and east) separated by north-south haul road
comdors. This area is nearly flat with a gentle slope (< 1 °) to the north and east.
Reclamation and coincident revegetation within this area took place in 1986. Replaced
' soils were generally sandy in texture. Specific sampling information for the 1985
Reclamation Area is contained in Table 4 and Table 8.
•
-8-
