WATER BALANCE AND CONSUMPTIVE USE
Southfields annual consumptive use is estimated at 43.4 AC-
FT for the reporting period. Present water use and consumptive
use within the mine's water system is represented in schematic
form on Figure 2. In addition, sources of consumptive use are
quantified on a monthly and annual basis on Table 7. Consumptive
use calculations for the preparation plant and pond exploration
are detailed on Tables 5 and 6, respectively. Estimations of
consumptive water use for these systems and the others listed
have been calculated with the same methods utilized in previous
annual reports.
Southfields water balance is an estimate of pumped and
runoff water, consumptive use, and discharges to the stream
system. During the reporting period, the mine wells pumped 53.2
AC-FT and the Corley well pumped 24.2 AC-FT, totalling 77.4 AC-
FT, into the mine water handling system. Consumptive use within
the mine totalled 43.4 AC-FT, and 23.6 AC-FT of water were
subsequently discharged to the streams. The summarized water
balance data indicated an approximate water balance within the
mine water systems. Southfield's monitoring program and water
systems analysis provides a reasonable estimate of water use and
consumptive use within the mine.
